鮮やかな紅色と白色に絞り模様の入った二色の桃の花「源平桃」は、江戸時代にハナモモの品種改良によって生まれた。
桜の季節を迎えるころに咲く「桃の花」であり、名前の由来は源氏と平家が日本を二分したことになぞらえて“ 源平”と名付けられた。
